High-performance ceramics for tomorrow’s electronics: CeramTec presents substrate solutions at PCIM Expo 2026

PCIM Expo 2026 in Nuremberg is the leading forum for power electronics and its key technologies. From 9 to 11 June, CeramTec will be presenting ceramic substrates for high-performance applications at Stand 7-540 in Hall 7. The focus will be on silicon nitride solutions for high-voltage and automotive electronics, advanced aluminium oxide materials for e-mobility, renewable energies and high-frequency technology, as well as a significantly strengthened European supply chain.

  • One-stop shop: all relevant substrates, a single source, reliable supply
  • High-performance silicon nitride (Si₃N₄) from a European supply chain for use in e-mobility and high-voltage technology
  • Rubalit® 710 C: new Al₂O₃ substrate for high-frequency and sensor applications

With their high thermal conductivity, excellent electrical insulation and chemical stability, ceramic materials are ideally suited to applications with demanding thermal and electrical requirements. As a specialist in technical ceramics, CeramTec will be showcasing its range of ceramic substrates at PCIM Expo 2026, taking place in Nuremberg from 9 to 11 June.

Ceramic substrates: Essential for power electronics

Advances in future-oriented fields such as e-mobility, renewable energy and digitalisation are placing ever-greater demands on individual components. Ceramic substrates form the basis for reliable power modules – whether in electric vehicles, wind turbines or solar inverters. CeramTec manufactures all four common substrate materials in Europe: aluminium oxide (Al₂O₃), ZTA, aluminium nitride (AlN) and silicon nitride (Si₃N₄). As a European one-stop shop, the company supplies all materials from one source. For CeramTec customers, this means: short distances, fast response times and a reliable supply chain.

Production in Europe safeguards supply chains

Silicon nitride is one of the highest-performance substrate materials for high-voltage and automotive applications, particularly when used in conjunction with SiC and GaN technology. CeramTec now supplies all four standard substrates, manufactured in Europe. Until now, these materials were available exclusively from Asia – with all the associated risks for the supply chain and planning reliability. “Silicon nitride is no longer a niche material, but the standard for demanding applications such as those in e-mobility. Our customers benefit from the fact that they can now reliably source this material from Europe whilst drawing on our many years of expertise with all other substrate materials,” says Hans Ulrich Völler, Senior Product Manager Substrates at CeramTec. For Si₃N₄ substrates, in addition to standard designs, custom-developed solutions are also available that can be precisely tailored to the intended application.

Rubalit® 710 C: For demanding high-frequency and sensor applications

With Rubalit® 710 C, CeramTec is expanding its proven Rubalit® range with a material specifically designed for high-frequency, sensor and microelectronics applications. The substrate, made from 99.6 per cent pure aluminium oxide, achieves a surface roughness of ≤ 0.1 µm. It is therefore suitable for the finest conductor track structures in high-frequency components for 5G technology, antennas or lambda sensors. “With Rubalit® 710 C, we are bridging the gap between tried-and-tested standard substrates and highly specialised solutions. Anyone requiring precise structures and stable electrical properties will find this a reliable choice,” says Völler.

With co-engineering, from concept to production-ready solution

The requirements for substrates vary considerably depending on the application. CeramTec therefore supports its customers from the early feasibility tests right through to a production-ready solution. “We coordinate material properties, geometries and tolerances closely with our customers in order to develop tailor-made solutions. In some projects, this collaboration is so close that it amounts to a development partnership,” says Völler. For visitors to PCIM, the exhibition stand offers the opportunity to experience this collaboration first-hand.

At the stand in Hall 7, Stand 7-540, visitors will find detailed information on ceramic substrates and their potential applications. The CeramTec team is available for technical discussions; live product demonstrations can be arranged at the stand on request.
